
For the Onions
- 2 small sweet onions, sliced thin
- 1 x 6 oz block Le Gruyere, grated
- 3/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1 tsp all-purpose seasoning blend
- 2 tbsp olive oil
For the Dipping Sauce
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 heaping tsp ketchup
- 1/2 lemon, juiced
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 pinch oregano
- 1 pinch cayenne
- Salt and pepper to taste
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 400F.
- Spread the grated Le Gruyere on a nonstick baking sheet and top with the onion slices (about 9, depending on size).
- In a bowl, stir together the panko, seasoning and olive oil, then distribute evenly over the onions.
- Bake for 25 minutes, until the Gruyere is golden brown and lacy at the edges.
- Meanwhile, mix all the dipping sauce ingredients and season with salt and pepper; let it sit.
- Let the cheese crust rest 5 minutes, then cut into bite-sized pieces. Serve with the dipping sauce.
