Dough
- 1 cup (250ml) warm milk
- 1 egg
- 3 Tbsp (35g) sugar
- 3 cups (375g) all-purpose flour (plus 3 Tbsp more if too sticky)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 Tbsp instant yeast
- 2 Tbsp (28g) butter
- About 12 cheese sticks
- Egg wash: 1 egg + 1 Tbsp water
Coating
- 1/4 cup powdered milk
- 2 Tbsp (1/8 cup) sugar
Directions
- In a stand mixer, combine the warm milk, egg, sugar, flour, salt, and instant yeast. Mix, then add the butter and knead into a smooth, soft dough (add up to 3 Tbsp more flour if too sticky).
- Cover and let rise for about 1 hour, until doubled.
- Divide the dough and roll each piece out into a flat oval. Place a cheese stick on the edge and roll it up into a log, sealing the seam.
- Arrange the rolls on a lined baking sheet and brush with the egg wash.
- Bake at 350F for 20 to 25 minutes, until golden.
- Mix the powdered milk and sugar for the coating. While the rolls are still warm, roll each one in the powdered milk-sugar mixture to coat.
